[Xiaomi Tips] Change System Font in Global ROM

Many Xiaomi smartphone users tend to use global ROM because of multiple languages support, pre-installed Google apps and most importantly chinese bloatwares free environment. Although it's been common that official global ROM receives update much later than official China ROM. But not many people actually care about that and Xiaomi devices ships with global ROM outside mainland China (in global market). Today's post is about a general question, which usually being asked by many global ROM users in official forum or other online platforms. The question is, how to change system font?


Yes, there's no shortcut way to change system-wide font settings in Xiaomi's MIUI global ROM due to legal restriction. It can be changed in China ROM or xiaomi.eu ROMs without any issues, but in global ROM it's a tricky work. However, every problem has a solution and in this case solution called 'iFont'. It's an Android application which can change system-wide font in majority of smartphones. It requires no ROOT access. So don't bother if your device is not ROOTED yet. Now let see how it can be done in Xiaomi phones with global MIUI ROM installed:


1. Download and install 'iFont' from Google Play store.

2. Open the application and go to the tab called 'MY' (see below image)


From this tab you can install your own fonts (from local SD card) and change system-wide font settings. Just click on 'Font Size' option (red marked) to change system font.

3. You can choose among any installed fonts like below image.


in this case, I've choose a font called "SF UI", it's iOS 10 font. You can choose font of your choice.

4. After changing the font, it will ask you to reboot the phone. Do so and you are done!

Just remember one thing- fonts for MIUI need to be in .mtz format. Not in conventional TTF format. So you need to download your desired fonts in .mtz format for Xiaomi phones. Good thing is, this 'iFont' app has built-in option to download fonts from a list (several languages are available, including English) and create .mtz file (theme) from that font. Later you can install/apply that font just like regular theme.
